ABOUT:
Hello, my name is Michael Zellmer and I work as a freelance photographer since 2010. Currently I live in Cologne, Germany. In my work I focus on portrait and corporate photography. I love to tell stories with my photos. My aspiration is to give my photos a depth, often like something mysterious. In my eyes a good photo lives from its atmosphere. Every person in my photos should shine, should get a stage to be himself or herself or to grow beyond it.
For me it is not important which social, cultural or political background the people in front of my camera have. I bring a calm, relaxed vibe to the set and I want everyone I work with, to feel comfortable. It is important to me that we create an authentic emotion together.
Accordingly, my client list is very wide. I work with individuals and small companies, as well as with big brands. It is precisely this breadth and the associated variety that makes my work so exciting for me. It is equally important for me to always create free space for artistic projects in addition to the commercial assignments.
For example, I have been working on a street portrait project in my adopted city of Cologne for several years. The exciting thing about this project is, that all the photos are taken spontaneously. I don‘t know the people I photograph on the street until the moment I approach them. The challenge is then, in the immediate environment with the available light, to create a strong photo of a previously unknown person.
